So, I skipped straight to the last step of getting rid of both the sigma driver and the modem driver, and when I rebooted, the computer installed BOTH automatically After taking your advice, what was different for me was that even though I selected the "remove files" when uninstalling the drivers for my modem and audio, it re-installed them anyway after I rebooted. Of course, make sure you don't need the modem or if you do, troubleshoot reinstalling that while not affecting the audio.
I did exactly what you said and my audio returned as soon as I had deleted the modem driver. In other Win Sounr setups reboot may be insipron. I download Sigma Tel audio driver and got back with sound. So Device Manager says all is well and the rest of Windows says no audio device is installed. Disabling the modem and downloading new drivers seems to have repaired the problem. I booted from the CD and audio tested perfectly fine in the diagnostics environment.

We went to the Dell website and downloaded inspiroh audio driver, but still nothing. The first step, ALWAYS, is to check and make sure that the right sound device is selected as default in audio device setup.

So essentially, if you are troubleshooting Audio issues and all basic troubleshooting fails, try removing the Modem drivers and see if that helps! I then uninstalled the Modem driver in Device Manager and deleted it from the system so Windows wouldn't reinstall iinspiron. Sigmatel driver from Dell didn't help.

Of course the mute button is off. That's exactly how I did it and worked for me I restarted the computer and everything was back to normal.
I then re-installed the audio and wah-laaaah- i had sound. You 604m posting a reply to: I know you mentioned this, but try visiting the Dell site and installing the updated audio driver for your particular model.

You can use AIDA The only change with my problem is that it wasn't the modem that I had to uninstall. By right-clicking and choosing playback devices same as going to Control Panel - Soundsit said that no audio devices were installed.
